Charles A Reid III, Esq.
Founding Partner and Mediator
Charles is the managing partner at Progressive Law, LLC in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As Managing Partner, Charles is responsible for ensuring that every service provided at Progressive Law, LLC is of the most innovative, efficient and affordable. Progressive law was founded with the idea that everyone deserves innovative and enlightened legal services served on a forward IT system that allows its clients to actively participate in and oversee the legal process in a manner convenient to the client. Charles has designed Progressive Law to be able to bring legal personnel and clients closer together. Background Even as a boy, Charles wanted to serve justice as an attorney. However, during high school, the United States was attacked on September 11th. Charles watched the event that changed the course of his life from his History class. Veteran Hearing the bugle call, Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program at age 18, one month before his senior year of high school. Charles became a marine at United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island As a Marine, Charles served three combat tours in Iraq as an 0311 Rifleman in Lima Company 3rd Battalion, First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division from March, 2004 through January, 2008. Charles was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat during Operation Phantom Fury. Becoming an Attorney After returning home, Charles quickly realized the need for a higher education. Charles returned to school at Northern Essex Community College. While studying at NECC, Charles noticed all the social injustices in the world. Charles found his calling when one of his professors asked him if he had ever thought about going law school and recommended the American College of History and Legal Studies, Salem, New Hampshire. Charles applied to ACHLS and was accepted into their accelerated program to attend the Massachusetts School of Law. During his last semester at NECC, Charles took 12 credit hours of classes at NECC and 13 credit hours of classes at ACHLS. Charles dedicated himself to succeeding at ACHLS and moving onto MSLAW. He graduated cum laude with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. Charles was then accepted into the Massachusetts School of Law in 2013. Charles received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in U.S. History and Legal Studies from ACHLS in 2014 at the end of his first successful year in attendance at MSLAW. Charles Graduated from the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover and was admitted as an attorney in 2016. Trained as a mediator, Charles exercises collaborative justice throughout the various area of law. Recognizing the need for progressive legal services in the various areas of law from business to domestic relations, Charles founded Progressive Law, LLC in late 2016. Charles leads a team of motivated attorneys, clerks, business personnel and IT professionals. It is Charles’ mission to ensure that Progressive Law uses technology to keep client costs as low as possible while ensuring data security and maximizing client participation in their legal experience. Stephen R. Smith, Esq.
Partner
Stephen joins the Progressive Law team as a mediation consultant. He will be helping Progressive Law’s client’s resolve conflict and find mutually beneficial solutions to problems in a more comfortable and informal setting outside of court. Stephen has owned and operated S&H Engineering in Chelmsford, MA for more than 30 years. During that time, he has grown the business from a two-man machine shop to a successful, full service prototype design, engineering, and manufacturing firm employing dozens of workers. Throughout his career, Stephen has been able to use his engineering experience to apply to his business acumen, imagining the possibilities and looking ahead to the result. As a small business owner, Stephen served in numerous capacities including design engineer, manufacturing supervisor, and chief financial officer. Like most small business owners, Stephen has done it all while growing and maintaining his business, from preparation of customer proposals and cost estimates, negotiating customer contracts, negotiating and obtaining financial banking, to capital equipment acquisition. He has been on both sides of the table dealing with legal issues over the years and can personally relate to Progressive’s clients while helping them find a solution that benefits both sides. Stephen holds a Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law, a Ph.D. in Engineering Management, and a Master’s in Business Administration.
